PAN-OS is the software that runs all Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewalls. Here’s how to check for new releases and get started with an upgrade to the latest software version.

You can check for new PAN-OS releases directly in the firewall, or on the Palo Alto Networks support portal. To upgrade the firewall to the latest version of PAN-OS:
  1. Review the latest PAN-OS Release Notes to see what’s new. Also take a look at PAN-OS Upgrade/Downgrade Considerations to make sure you understand all potential changes the PAN-OS release might introduce.
  2. Check for new PAN-OS releases:
    • On the firewall
      —Select
      Device
      Software
      and
      Check Now
      for the firewall to check with the Palo Alto Networks Update Server for new PAN-OS release versions.
    • On the support portal
      —Go to support.paloaltonetworks.com and, on the left menu bar, select
      Updates
      Software Updates
      . Download and save the release you want to use to upgrade the firewall.
  3. Once you’ve decided the release version you want, follow the complete workflow to upgrade the firewall to a new PAN-OS version. The steps you’ll take might dependent on the release version you’re currently running, if you’re using HA, and whether or not you’re using Panorama to manage firewalls.
