| Where Can I Use This? | What Do I Need? |
The New Tab Page serves as a central point for users during their daily browser usage.
This document outlines the structural components of the page, user-facing customizations
and administrative configurations.
New Tab Page Components
Search and Web Navigation Omnibox
The central search bar allows users to perform web searches or navigate directly to
URLs.
This component adheres to the Default Search Provider control.
User Customizable Shortcuts
The shortcut grid is customizable, allowing users to select which types of
links are displayed through the Customization menu.
Available display options include:
Administrator-Pinned Applications: A selection of up to 16
essential tools curated by the organization to guarantee consistent access
for all users.
User-Defined Shortcuts: A personalized collection of up to 8
links manually managed by the individual user.
Frequent Sites: Dynamically generated links to the user's
most-visited websites based on their browsing history.
The grid supports a maximum of 16 shortcuts. When both organizational and
user-managed shortcuts are enabled, the organizational pins take precedence. Any
remaining slots in the 16-slot grid are filled by the user's curated shortcuts and
frequent sites.
The New Tab Page serves as a central hub for distributing
organizational updates and administrative notifications.
Prominent Visibility: Alerts are presented as clear
badges or banners to capture user attention.
Mandatory Engagement: Critical updates remain
persistent until the user opens the message, ensuring essential
information is acknowledged.
Settings for these broadcasts are located within
Browser Customization
-> New Tab page -> Admin messages (refer to the control
documentation).
