Prisma Agent Session Timeouts on Android

Understand Prisma Agent session timeouts on Android and how to extend your session or re-authenticate without disconnecting.
Where Can I Use This? What Do I Need?
  • Prisma Agent 26.4
  • Android 10 and later
  • Internet access
Prisma® Agent manages two types of sessions when you connect: a gateway session that maintains your network connection, and a user authentication session that verifies your identity. Both sessions expire after a period configured by your administrator. When either session is about to expire, the agent displays a session expiry banner at the bottom of the app. If the Prisma Agent app is in the background, the agent delivers a notification. Tap the notification to open the app and see the banner.
The two session types expire differently. When a gateway session is about to expire, tapping Extend silently renews your connection in the background with no re-authentication required. When a user authentication session is about to expire, tapping Extend starts the re-authentication workflow while your existing connection stays active.
The banner only appears when you are connected. If the agent is not connected, no banner or notification appears.

Extend Your Session on Android

The notification text is configured by your administrator. On Android, both session types show the same notification. Tap the notification to open the app, or expand the notification to access session-specific action buttons without opening the app.
  • Gateway session — Tap the notification to open the app. A banner appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap Extend. The session extends silently in the background and the banner dismisses immediately.
Alternatively, expand the notification in the notification shade for quick action buttons:
    • Extend silently extends the session and dismisses the notification without opening the app.
    • Sign Out opens the app and signs you out if your administrator has enabled user sign-out.
  • User authentication session — Tap the notification to open the app. A banner appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap Extend to start the re-authentication workflow. Your existing connection stays active throughout. If you cancel re-authentication, your connection does not drop and the banner re-appears approximately 180 seconds later.
Alternatively, expand the notification in the notification shade for quick action buttons:
    • Re-authenticate opens the app and starts the re-authentication workflow.
    • Sign Out opens the app and signs you out if your administrator has enabled user sign-out.

Other Notification Scenarios

The following scenarios apply depending on how you interact with session expiry notifications on Android.
  • You dismiss the banner by tapping X.
The banner closes. If your session is still pending expiry the next time you open the app, the banner re-appears.
  • You receive a notification but do not tap it.
When you open the agent app, the session expiry banner appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap Extend to act on the pending session.
  • Your user authentication session expires before you respond.
The agent signs you out. You must log in again to restore your connection.
  • Your gateway session expires before you respond.
The agent disconnects briefly and reconnects automatically.
