Remote Debugging for Prisma Browser Mobile
Where Can I Use This? What Do I Need?
  • iOS Devices:
    • Apple Mac computer running macOS
    • Apple Safari web browser
    • a compatible Lightning or USB-C cable.
  • Android Devices:
    • Workstation running Windows PC or macOS
    • desktop Mozilla Firefox browser installed
    • Android device with Developer Options enabled
    • USB-C data cable
  • Administrative Access: SCM administrator permissions to modify Security Directives and scope rules to specific test device groups or users.
When navigating web applications via mobile devices, users may encounter rendering defects, broken assets, or non-responsive iframe elements. These issues often stem from browser compatibility conflicts or underlying network/proxy restrictions within internal enterprise environments.
To facilitate effective technical troubleshooting, Prisma Browser Mobile includes a Remote Debugging capability. This feature allows administrators and support engineers to inspect, diagnose, and debug live web sessions on mobile endpoints using desktop-grade developer tools (Safari Web Inspector on macOS and Firefox Developer Tools on desktop).
Because remote debugging grants deep inspection capabilities into active user sessions and exposes sensitive runtime data, it is disabled by default. It must be explicitly enabled via policy in Strata Cloud Manager (SCM) and scoped strictly to authorized test accounts or devices.

Strata Cloud Manager Administrative Policy Setup

  1. Log In to SCM: Navigate to the Strata Cloud Manager console and select RulesBrowser Security.
  2. Create Remote Debugging Rule: Add a new security rule. Under Browser Security controls, set Remote Debugging to Allow.
  3. Scope Policy Scope: Assign the rule strictly to designated test users or test device groups. Do not apply this rule globally or to production accounts.
  4. Save and Enforce: Save and deploy the policy configuration. On the target device, force close and reopen Prisma Browser Mobile to fetch the updated policy payload.

iOS Remote Debugging Step-by-Step Procedure

  1. Enable Web Inspector on iOS: On the iOS device, open SettingsAppsSafariAdvanced and toggle on Web Inspector.
  2. Enable Developer Features in Desktop Safari: On the Mac, launch Safari and open Settings → Advanced. Check Show features for web developers (or Show Develop menu in menu bar).
  3. Connect Endpoint: Unlock the iOS device, connect it via USB cable to the Mac, and tap Trust This Computer if prompted. Keep the device unlocked with Prisma Browser in the foreground.
  4. Launch Web Inspector: In Mac Safari, open the Develop menu, hover over the connected device name, expand the Prisma Browser entry, and select the target active web tab.

Android Remote Debugging Step-by-Step Procedure

  1. Enable Android USB Debugging: On the Android device, open Settings, access Developer Options, and toggle on USB Debugging.
  2. Enable In-App Debugging: Launch Prisma Browser on Android, enter Settings, and enable the Remote Debugging option.
  3. Connect to Desktop Firefox: Connect the device via USB cable to the computer. Open Firefox on desktop and navigate to about:debugging.
  4. Establish Session: Select USB Devices, locate the connected phone, select Firefox (com.talonsec.talon) corresponding to Prisma Browser, click Connect, and open DevTools for the desired active tab.

Post-Debugging

When troubleshooting is completed, immediately disable or revert the Remote Debugging rule in SCM back to Block to prevent unauthorized inspection of active mobile sessions.

Troubleshooting

This section provides a summary of general troubleshooting guidelines for common issues encountered in Prisma Browser Mobile:
  • Remote Debugging: Allows debugging mobile web pages via Safari (iOS) or Firefox (Android). Requires an admin-enabled SCM rule, connecting via USB cable, and toggling remote debugging settings on Android.
  • Links to External Apps Not Working: Ensure the "open links in apps" setting in the browser is not set to "never", or verify administrative security rules in the management console.
  • Popups Not Working: Check that the "block popup" setting is turned off and that "open links in apps" is enabled. These options can also be managed by security policies.
  • Site Blocked by Policy: Refer to the instructional video attachment for details on how policy blocks behave on devices.
  • Redirecting Email Links: Set Prisma Browser as default, or configure Intune for Outlook. Note that Gmail does not support deep links directly, requiring default browser setting or manual copy-pasting.
