  • NGFW (Managed by Panorama or Strata Cloud Manager)
  • VM-Series
  • CN-Series
  • Advanced Threat Prevention (for enhanced feature support) or Threat Prevention License
Activating Threat Prevention and Advanced Threat Prevention ensures that a Palo Alto Networks NGFW evolves from a basic traffic filter into a sophisticated security engine capable of deep-content inspection. This further enables the NGFW to look beyond the envelope of a connection and analyze the actual data payload for malicious intent, effectively neutralizing known vulnerabilities, viruses, and spyware through a robust, daily-updated signature database. While the standard license focuses on cataloging and blocking established threats, the Advanced tier introduces inline AI and machine learning to detect and stop zero-day exploits and evasive command-and-control (C2) traffic in real-time. Together, these services provide a layered defense-in-depth strategy that prevents attackers from exploiting software bugs, delivering malicious files, or exfiltrating data, even if the threat has never been seen before.
  • NGFW—The base Threat Prevention and Advanced Threat Prevention subscriptions are activated similarly on NGFW to other cloud service subscriptions. Refer to Activate Subscription Licenses for more information.
