When a physical ION 9000 device is running
with ports 9, 10, and 11 connected (no SFP+ inserted in port 12),
after you unplug either of the ports 9, 10 or 11 or configure
Admin Down
or
Admin
Up
, the ports 9, 10, 11 start flapping indefinitely.
This issue is applicable on image versions ION-5.4.x and ION-5.5.1.
To
resolve this issue, upgrade the ION 9000 to a new software version
using the Prisma SD-WAN web
interface and upgrade the firmware using the device toolkit command.
It is a one-time process and not required for future ION 9000 upgrades.
It
is recommended to always begin with port 12 as the first connected
port on ION 9000 to avoid this issue. With a 10G SFP inserted on
port-12, this issue will not occur.
During the
upgrade duration, the interfaces 9-12 will be down and there will
be no traffic on these ports. Interfaces 1-8 and 13-16 will be up.
It is recommended to upgrade the firmware during the maintenance
window.
Upgrade
the ION 9000 software using the Prisma SD-WAN web interface.
Upgrade the ION 9000 software to image 5.4.9 or 5.5.3 release
on the Prisma SD-WAN web interface. Refer to Schedule Software Upgrade for
details. After the upgrade, a standing alarm is raised and can be
seen from the device toolkit.
Run the following toolkit command
to check if the ION 9000 has an old firmware:
# dump standingalarms
Code : DEVICEHW_ION9000X722FW_OUTOFDATE
Ident : x722
Severity : major
Raised : 2021-06-03 00:03:08.806 +0000 UTC (1m30.303724271s ago)
Correlation ID : EbraKYfr
The code
DEVICEHW_ION9000X722FW_OUTOFDATE
in
the output indicates that the firmware is out-of-date and needs
to be upgraded.
If the Prisma SD-WAN controller is running version 5.5.3,
then, after you upgrade the ION 9000 to 5.4.9 or 5.5.3, the standing
alarm is seen on the portal web interface. The alarm indicates that
you need to upgrade the firmware for the ION 9000 as described in step 2.
Upgrade
the ION 9000 firmware using the device toolkit.
Log in to the ION 9000 device toolkit.
From the toolkit, run the command
upgrade-x722-fw
.
Enter
Y
to agree with the firmware
upgrade procedure.
Verify the upgrade is successful by running the toolkit
command dump standingalarms, the standing alarm is cleared if the
upgrade is successful.
