Remote Clipboard for Isolated Tabs
Learn how Remote Clipboard lets users copy and paste between isolated tabs in the
same session without exposing content to the local device.

All tabs in an isolated browsing session share one isolated browser and one clipboard.
The Copy and Paste settings in your isolation profile control whether users can copy
content out of isolation and paste content into it. When you disable these settings to
prevent data from leaving isolation, users can't copy content in one isolated tab and
paste it into another, which interrupts common workflows, such as copying a value from
a web application into a support ticket in another tab.
With Remote Clipboard, RBI lets users copy and paste between
isolated tabs in the same session. The content stays in the RBI
cloud environment and never reaches the user's device, so you can allow users to copy
and paste between tabs and still prevent data from leaving isolation.
Enable Remote Clipboard in an isolation profile. When a user
copies content in an isolated tab that uses that profile, RBI
saves the content to Remote Clipboard. When the user pastes in another isolated tab,
RBI pastes the most recent content from Remote
Clipboard.
- Remote Clipboard adds to your Copy and Paste settings and never
overrides them. You can enable Remote Clipboard only when both
Copy and Paste are disabled. When you enable Copy or
Paste, RBI turns Remote Clipboard off, and users work with the
local clipboard only.
Remote Clipboard belongs to one user session. It isn't shared between users,
devices, or tenants, and RBI clears it when the session
ends.
Remote Clipboard holds one item. Each new copy replaces the previous
content.
Remote Clipboard supports plain text, formatted text, and images, and keeps
their formatting. Files and drag-and-drop content aren't supported.
When transferring content to or from a user's device, only plain text is
supported for text, and any existing text formatting is removed during copy and
paste. For images, only PNG format is supported when pasting from the
device.
Users paste with the keyboard shortcut. The paste option in the context menu
doesn't paste content, and RBI shows a message that
reminds the user to use the keyboard shortcut.
Users can't paste from Remote Clipboard on mobile devices.
If a user has isolated tabs that use different isolation profiles, and each
profile has Remote Clipboard enabled, those tabs
share the same Remote Clipboard.
Remote Clipboard doesn't change your file upload and download controls.
Copying an image doesn't create a file, and Download
Files still controls whether users can save files to their
device.
RBI records Remote Clipboard activity as
Remote
Copy and
Remote Paste events, including the URLs of the pages
involved. Copying to or pasting from the user's device is logged as separate
Copy and Paste events. The logs never contain the clipboard content. To view
the events, open
Log Viewer.
The 10 MB size limit applies to Remote Clipboard and to copying to and pasting
from the user's device, and you can't change it. If the content is larger,
RBI shortens plain text and doesn't copy or paste
images or formatted text that exceed the limit. In each case, the user sees a
message.
