Data Security for
Slack Enterprise supports scanning Slack
Canvas files. This expansion ensures that your organization's sensitive information
remains secure, compliant, and visible across all critical collaborative surfaces
within Slack.
Slack Canvas is a native, persistent surface built directly into Slack where teams
can create, share, and organize rich, fully-formatted content. Unlike fleeting
messages, a Canvas serves as a digital document or wiki-like page that lives
alongside a channel or direct message, or can be a standalone item.
- Content: Canvases can contain a mix of text, checklists, tables, embedded
files, links, and multimedia.
- Use Cases: They are typically used for project plans, meeting notes,
onboarding guides, knowledge repositories, and critical resource
aggregation.
- Collaboration: Multiple users can view, edit, and collaborate on a Canvas in
real-time, making it a central hub for team knowledge.
Data Security now extends its robust file scanning capabilities to include all files
contained within Slack Canvas in Slack Enterprise environments. All Data Security
functionalities that were previously available for scanning other types of files
(for example, direct file uploads) in Slack Enterprise are now available for Slack
Canvas files. This includes:
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP): Real-time scanning for sensitive data types such
as Personally Identifiable Information (PII), Protected Health Information
(PHI), Payment Card Industry (PCI) data, and proprietary secrets.
- Policy Enforcement: Automatically applying security policies, including
flagging, alerting, and taking remediation actions (for example, isolating
or quarantining the file) upon detection of policy violations within a
Canvas file.
- Threat Detection: Scanning for malware and other advanced threats embedded
within files linked or uploaded to a Canvas.
- Visibility and Reporting: Comprehensive audit trails, incident reports, and
risk assessments that now include Canvas files, offering a single pane of
glass for all Slack data security posture.
