Messages may be displayed when issuing a command. The messages provide context information and can help in correcting invalid commands. In the following examples, the message is shown in bold.
Example: Unknown command
username@hostname#
application-group
Unknown command: application-group [edit network] username@hostname#
Example: Changing modes
username@hostname#
exit
Exiting configuration mode username@hostname>
Example: Invalid syntax
username@hostname>
debug 17
Unrecognized command Invalid syntax. username@hostname>
The CLI checks the syntax of each command. If the syntax is correct, it executes the command and the candidate hierarchy changes are recorded. If the syntax is incorrect, an invalid syntax message is presented, as in the following example:
username@hostname#
set deviceconfig setting wildfire cloud-intelligence submit-sample yes
Unrecognized command Invalid syntax. [edit] username@hostname#
