Applipedia
Research application metadata, generate custom App-ID signatures, and track App-ID
changes using the Applipedia web portal.
Applipedia (
applipedia.paloaltonetworks.com) is the
Palo Alto Networks
application research portal where you can explore the full App-ID application catalog,
view detailed application metadata, generate custom App-ID signatures, and review
changes across content releases. Applipedia covers both Content App-IDs (delivered
through content updates) and Cloud App-IDs (delivered through the App-ID Cloud
Engine).
Access Roles
Applipedia supports two levels of access:
- Public (no login required)—Use Public access for basic discovery and
browsing of the App-ID catalog. You can search and view a core set of attributes
for each application, including the application name, icon, vendor, category,
subcategory, App-ID type, risk score, and description. Additional attributes are
visible as labels but their values are not displayed.
- Authenticated (Customer Support Portal account)—Sign in with your
Customer Support Portal credentials to access the full set of application
attributes needed for operational workflows such as troubleshooting,
configuration, and security policy planning. Authenticated access includes
characteristics, secure ports, dependency information, associated EDLs, and
release history. If your account includes a SaaS Inline or DLP subscription, you
can also view the corresponding SaaS security posture and DLP inspection
attributes.
Search and Filter Applications
The main Applications page displays the full application catalog with sortable
columns for Application Name, App-ID Name, Category, Sub-Category, App-ID Type,
Risk, DLP Supported, Requires Decryption, and Standard Ports. You can narrow the results using the
filter bar at the top of the page:
- Text search—Enter a keyword to search across application names, App-ID
names, vendors, standard ports, and descriptions. Applipedia provides
autocomplete suggestions as you type.
- Column filters—Filter by Category, Sub-Category, App-ID Type, Risk
Score, and other attributes. Authenticated users have access to additional
filters such as Requires Decryption and DLP Supported.
- Add Filter—Select additional filter criteria beyond the default set to
build advanced queries.
Applications that belong to a container (product suite) are grouped together. Click
the expand arrow next to a container application to see all functional App-IDs within
that group. The counter next to the container name shows how many functional App-IDs
match your current filters out of the total in the group.
Toggle Show Obsolete Apps to include or exclude deprecated
applications from the results.
