Set Up VIMS
Set up and configure your VIMS deployment.
You can enable, configure, and monitor VIMS (Vehicle Ignition Monitoring System) on
the PA-52R-5G, PA-54R-POE, and PA-54R-POE-D-5G firewalls. VIMS uses IGN+ and BATT+
inputs to detect instances of vehicle ignition and draw electrical current to power
the connected appliance. By installing the firewall in this way, you can effectively
establish a mobile network perimeter, track vehicle data, and secure sensitive data
in remote locations.
The PA-54R-POE and PA-54R-POE-D-5G firewalls have BATT- and IGN+ inputs that must be
connected to the vehicle's primary power source through an AMPSU (Automotive Power
Supply Unit). You can only enable VIMS configuration once the connection between the
firewall and the vehicle is established. The interface between the AMPSU and the
firewall offers input/output pins that can be configured to monitor and report on
different conditions of the VIMS deployment based on voltage signals.
The following procedure describes how to enable and monitor VIMS.
- Connect the vehicle's BATT- and BATT+ cables to the firewall's power input.Connect the BATT- and IGN+ inputs to the vehicle's primary power source. You must use an AMPSU (Automotive Power Supply Unit) with the PA-54R-POE and PA-54R-POE-D-5G firewalls.Power on the firewall if it is not already powered on.Log in to the firewall Web Interface, then navigate to DeviceSetupSmart Control AI.Select Enable VIMS Configuration to turn on VIMs.Configure the power off timeout settings:
- PoE Power Off Timeout (In minutes) – Enter a value between 1 and 60 to determine the time (in minutes) PoE remains active after the vehicle ignition is powered off.
- System Power Off Timeout (In Minutes) – Enter a value between 1 and 60 to determine the time (in minutes) the device continues running after the vehicle ignition is powered off.
On the Dashboard, select the VIMS Status widget to display the battery voltage and shutdown counts on the firewall.
