WiFi Disconnected
WiFi allows your computers and mobile
devices such as smart phones or smart watches to connect to the
internet. Your device connects to a WiFi router which in turn connects
to a local WiFi network that lets your device connect your device
to the internet. If the signal strength of the WiFi network that
you are connected to becomes very weak, your WiFi router no longer
communicates with the WiFi network and your device gets disconnected
from WiFi. This could also happen if your WiFi router begins to
malfunction. When your WiFi gets disconnected, unless you have a
wired connection (using an ethernet cable), you will be disconnected from
your internet. You will receive the following notification on your
device.
Notification Text | What it means | Suggested remediation |
You’re not connected to WiFi and won’t be able
to access internet applications. | Your device doesn't have a connection with
your WiFi router. Either your WiFi router is not functioning properly. It
is also possible that you are too far away from your WiFi router,
or WiFi may be disabled on your computer. | Check your WiFi connection. Check your WiFi router to make sure it is working. Alternatively,
you can restart your router. Check the router’s user manual for
details on restarting your router. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to check if
there is a internet outage in your area.

Clicking on the notification opens the Application
Experience UI opens. It provides details about the notification
along with some suggestions to fix the stated problem.
The Learn More link opens a time series
historical chart displaying the status of your WiFi connection during
the last 3 hours. A slider bar placed at the right end of the chart
by default shows you the most recent status. Move your mouse sideways
on the chart across various points in time, to understand the historical
status of the active area. Depending on where you mouse over and click
in the chart, you can view the status and recommendation that was
indicated at that specific time within the 3-hour window. The red
dots indicate that a notification was sent to your device at that
time where the dot appears.
Even though your WiFi is disconnected, you may be still connected
to the internet. The color of the dot next to Internet in
the left pane represents your internet connection status. A green
dot indicates that your device is connected to the internet. A red
dot indicates that you are disconnected from the internet.
To check for historical data indicating if or when the internet
was down and a notification was sent to you in the past 3-hour window,
click on the Internet tab in the left pane.
then click Learn More. If there is a red
dot on the chart, it indicates that a Disconnected Internet notification
was sent at the time where the red dot appears.
If your internet was disconnected, a red dot appears next to Internet in
the left pane and the status shows as Disconnected. Click on Internet to
see the recommendations on how to resolve this issue.
To get more details, click Learn More.
This opens a chart which shows you the time when your internet got
disconnected.
